Women in the Warehouse: Leah Wilkins

Each month, Golden State Foods interviews a woman leader within the GSF family of companies and shares her journey, insights, and what it takes to succeed in this industry. This September, it's Warehouse Supervisor Leah Wilkins from QCD Spokane.

Warehouse Supervisor, Leah Wilkins, has been with QCD for nearly a decade. Since joining the company in 2010, Leah has supported Spokane, Washington in multiple roles – first as a Selector and Loader, then as a Warehouse Lead, and now as a Warehouse Supervisor. It’s this final role that Leah has proudly held for almost five years. Even though she’s overseen nearly every warehouse function – including hiring, product selection, delivery and food safety – she’s sure that her most important function is implementing the GSF Creed and Values in every part of her job.

Wilkins admires the Spokane facility and describes it as a small, tight group – almost like a family. Prior to working at QCD Spokane, Leah worked in manufacturing at a food processing facility. She was ambitious and began looking for opportunities that could potentially become her career, not just another job.

“GSF has provided me with many opportunities and guidance to learn about operations and management, and now I’ve made a career,” said Leah. “It’s funny to me that it’s considered a male- dominated industry. I’m a single parent and have been able to do this job full-time – it’s been great.”

Beyond her role as warehouse supervisor, Leah has served as Chair for the GSF Foundation committee in Spokane for two years. Leah was excited to share that their recent Pedal to Perfection event – a program intended to raise student attendance rates in elementary schools – has been incredibly successful. This year, 16 students had perfect attendance, which is double the number from last year.

“She’s a real foundation to the warehouse team and is always very giving of herself and her time, even if she’s tasked with a new role,” said Alexandra Myers, Northwest HR Supervisor for QCD. “I passed the GSF Foundation down to her after being the chair for seven years, and she ran with it. There’s nothing that she wouldn’t do herself when it comes to her team. She leads by example!”
