Michael Gavin, Assistant Warehouse Manager at QCD in Suffolk, Virginia, began his career in March 2012 as a part‑time warehouse selector. Drawn to the company’s growth opportunities and strong team culture, he actively pursued development, taking on warehouse lead shifts, seeking cross-training, and maintaining a proactive mindset. Developing Through Roles and Responsibilities
In his first key career move at QCD, Michael earned the position of Inventory Specialist, which allowed him to build deep knowledge of QCD’s systems, software, and the administrative side of operations. The experience proved pivotal. In 2018, he progressed to Warehouse Supervisor.
“Stepping into leadership was a significant moment for me,” said Michael. “I was excited to contribute at a higher level while continuing to grow professionally.”
He refined his leadership style, expanded his influence, and supported a team that shared his commitment to operational excellence. Today, as Assistant Warehouse Manager, he continues to lead with the same drive, curiosity, and dedication that marked his early years at QCD.
A Culture Centered on People
Michael credits several key factors for his tenure with QCD, including the chance to participate in major initiatives and consistent opportunities to promote into roles of greater responsibility.
“There’s a clear path for advancement and trust in me to make decisions that support the team,” he said.
Along the way, facility leaders who invested in him, especially Pete Del Giorno, Christopher Chisholm, and Joseph McMurtrie, helped shape his trajectory.
“They always make time to listen, teach, and explain processes without cutting corners,” he shared.
Michael attributes much of his success to QCD’s people‑first approach.
“The culture here is all about people, and that’s what makes the difference,” he said. “I’m lucky to work with such a solid team in Suffolk.”
He especially values the autonomy, flexibility, and support from leadership that allow him to take on new challenges.
When it comes to moving up at QCD, Michael’s advice centers on proactivity: “Put yourself out there. Make it known that you’re willing to do the work. Show interest in any and all opportunities.”
Looking Ahead
As for what’s next in his journey, Michael remains open and ambitious. He said, “My goal is to keep building on my experience, take on challenges that help me advance as a leader, and continue making a positive impact on the team and the company.”
