QCD Career Story: Michelle Porter
This Veterans Day, Quality Custom Distribution (QCD) celebrates the inspiring journey of Michelle Porter, a United States Army veteran who has found a new sense of purpose and leadership in her role as Central Human Resources Regional Manager in Chicago.
In May 2022, Michelle joined QCD because she felt drawn to the company's commitment to fostering best practices in HR, supporting employees at every level, and creating strong partnerships within the organization. With over a decade of HR experience in a law firm and a desire to return to a union environment, Michelle found QCD's Creed and Values perfectly aligned with her own commitment to integrity and excellence.
Starting as an HR supervisor overseeing two HR professionals, Michelle quickly advanced to managing a team of two HR generalists. QCD recently recognized her dedication and leadership skills with a promotion to Central HR Regional Manager, leading a team of seven. In her current role, Michelle partners with seven distribution center general managers, collaborates closely with the senior regional HR director, and supports over 700 associates across QCD’s central region.
Michelle's military background has been instrumental in shaping her approach to HR at QCD. She shares, "My military service in the United States Army instilled in me a strong work ethic, discipline, honesty, and an unwavering commitment to service. As a veteran, I have gained a unique perspective on life that profoundly shapes my interactions with others."
At QCD, Michelle has benefited from the company's strong commitment to professional development and a culture that prioritizes employee growth. She credits the invaluable support and mentorship of HR leader Charley Huggett, QCD Chicago General Manager Jay Lee, and Operations Manager Anthony Roxas for her career advancement and personal growth.
For Michelle, the most rewarding aspect of working at QCD is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day. She explains, "Knowing that I am helping associates and guiding leaders toward thoughtful, informed choices keeps me energized and fulfilled. The impact we make together, even in difficult moments, is truly rewarding."
Looking to the future, Michelle intends to deepen her expertise as Central HR Regional Manager by implementing best practices and cultivating meaningful partnerships. Her goal is to continue fostering the well-being of her team and ensuring that QCD remains a place where every associate feels valued and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
"To me, success is not defined by job titles, but by the responsibilities I take on and the positive influence I have on my colleagues," Michelle shares. "I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to a culture that prioritizes collaboration, innovation, mental awareness, and diversity."
Honoring all veterans today and always, QCD extends its sincerest gratitude for the service and sacrifices of individuals like Michelle Porter. Her military experience, coupled with her dedication to HR excellence and servant leadership, makes her an invaluable asset to the QCD family now and for the future.
