When David Fox first joined QCD in Suffolk, Virginia in 2018, he brought with him more than 30 years of rich experience in the food and beverage distribution industry. From his early days behind the wheel as a delivery driver to managing teams in both sales and logistics, David had seen—and done—it all. More than finding just another job, he was searching for a place where his values aligned with his work and where people truly came first. He found that at QCD. Starting Strong at QCD Suffolk
David started his journey with QCD as a Transportation Manager. He had heard glowing recommendations from former colleagues who spoke highly of the company’s culture and work environment.
David’s deep industry knowledge and servant leadership mindset quickly made an impact. In 2022, he earned a promotion to Assistant General Manager. At the heart of his success, David demonstrated his unwavering commitment to supporting those around him.
“What I enjoy most about working at QCD is supporting our associates,” he says. “If we remove the obstacles in their path and celebrate their wins—big or small—they will rise to any challenge.”
Mentorship That Makes a Difference David attributes much of his growth to his mentor Pete Del Giorno, QCD Suffolk’s General Manager.
“Pete has been an invaluable mentor, offering guidance and the freedom to express differing opinions. His unwavering support in decision-making has been instrumental in my growth. He shares the core belief that effective leadership is rooted in prioritizing the well-being of our people, which in turn enables us to deliver exceptional service to our customers.
Pete also has deep respect for David’s leadership and character.
“Committed, thoughtful, intelligent, with a great sense of humor, David brings all of this to the table. The pride that he displays sets the example in the center for everyone to set up their people daily for success with no excuses.”
What’s Next for David As David prepares for the next chapter—stepping into the role of General Manager at QCD Suffolk when Pete retires—he focuses on expanding from daily operations to long-term, strategic leadership.
“The transition has challenged me to think broader, to consider the companywide impact of my decisions. It’s a mindset shift that’s preparing me well for what lies ahead.”
What keeps David rooted at QCD is simple, yet powerful: the people.
“Our team is a close-knit family. We support and care for one another in a way that’s rare in today’s workplace,” he says. “Many companies say they’re ‘people-first,’ but here in Suffolk, we live it every single day.”
David’s advice for others looking to grow at QCD reflects the same philosophy that has guided his career. He encourages others to work hard, stay curious, and always lead with a servant mindset. For David, the road to logistics leadership has encompassed more than growth—it’s paved with purpose. And at QCD, that purpose is clear: people come first.
